Nasya (Nasal clearing)


Nasya is performed after a gentle facial massage followed by a steam therapy. Nasya is administrations of warm herbal oil/ghee through nostrils. The nose is considered a door to the brain and has a calming effect on the nervous system. It is useful in cleansing toxins and increased Kapha( accumulations ) in the ENT region also helps in hair related problems, headaches, promotes better sleep

Nasya is a word related to Naasa (Sanskrit word for Nose). In the Ayurveda system of treatment, especially in the category of Panchakarma (5 major treatments) or Shodhana Chikitsa (Cleansing treatment), Nasya is a treatment wherein the medicines are put into the nose. The medicines are in the form of either medicated Taila (oil) or Ghrita (ghee) or Swarasa (herbal juice). The herbal preparations and its form of usage are chosen and decided by an experienced Ayurvedic doctor.

One of the most popular Ayurveda treatments, Panchakarma is administered for detoxification and rejuvenation. The five-fold treatment aims at balancing the doshas, improving immunity, and restoring well-being. Highly personalised, the treatment has a general outline of sub-treatments which vary depending on the patient's constitution. The five cleansing methods are Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Rakta Moksha.
